New Room – Cozy Kitchen
The main, or perhaps most obvious new addition to the game in the Spirit City Lofi Sessions DLC is that of a new room, the titular cozy kitchen! Just like the existing bedroom, this room can be fully customised with a selection of wallpapers, countertops, cabinets, flooring options, and accessories. Some of the options have further colour options allowing players to really personalise their new kitchen. There are also a number of fun kitchen-themed wardrobe options available, such as aprons and chef hats.
A new space would not be complete without fresh soundscapes, and this DLC offers three: kitchen ambience, food bubbling, and dishwasher noises. These fit well with some of the additional activities that are available. Whilst in the kitchen, players can cook, eat, chop food, oversee a simmering pot, whisk, or wash dishes, as well as more familiar options such as typing and reading.

New Spirits
The Cozy Kitchens Expansion introduces three totally new spirits as well as nine discoverable spirit-variants that players can discover. Each with a culinary theme and each with its own unique entry in the spirit dex. One of the new spirits is Squire Sprout, an under-confident carrot knight, complete with sword and shield. Cinnaspinner, a baked version of the existing Arachknit spirit, is one of the available variations along with Syrupii, a sweet, pancake-themed iteration of a Goopii. As in the base game, the spirit-dex contains hints on how to find the different spirits, and finding spirit variants will also require the player to have the original version of the spirit with them.
The spiritdex itself has also received some updates. In addition to the extra pages for the new spirits, there have been some visual changes to the book. Each spirit’s page is themed, and the overall appearance has been improved, giving the spiritdex a much more magical feel. Finally, new activity animations have been added for the existing spirits, which is a charming touch and adds to the whimsical nature of this game without impeding its productivity features.

What Else is New?
All the productivity tools have remained the same, including the timer, to-do lists, journal, and habit tracker. However, the UI has received a subtle visual update and is a bit easier to process, and it can now be toggled on and off for those times when players do not want it to be visible. Another practical improvement is the option to have the game window ‘always on top’; this means it can be resized and placed on top of other windows that players are working from, keeping timers and other useful aspects on display.

Summary
Cozy Kitchen is a substantial update to an already brilliant game. The new content adds to all of the more fun aspects of the game without getting in the way of the productivity tool’s efficacy or hindering the player’s focus on external tasks. As with the previous content, spirit collecting is a largely idle task, and the additional customization options encourage earning points through things like completing to-do lists in order to create a dream kitchen.
The amount of new content is comparable to that of the base game in terms of the new space available, customisations, and the extra spirit companions that can be found. It absolutely justifies its price tag, especially considering the number of free updates and additions that have already been provided. The new content is well considered, thematic, fun and a wonderful addition to the base game. If you already enjoy Spirit City Lofi Sessions, then you’ll love Cozy Kitchen. If you haven’t played but are looking for a charming idle game with creature collection, productivity tools, and a focus on general wellbeing, then look no further!
