As the days become shorter and the cold weather begins to creep in, autumn is the perfect time of year to sit back and immerse oneself in a great indie game. We’ve compiled a list of 15 cosy indie games that are worth staying home for this Autumn – all with full reviews available. This listicle is inspired in part by a recent post from Patch Magazine (it’s great; check it out if you haven’t already), but we have tried to steer clear of making duplicate suggestions!

A Short Hike is a casual, easygoing 3D platformer by developer adamgryu. Away from the hustle and bustle of city life, Claire has gone camping with her Aunt May at the foot of a tall mountain on an island. Although the two birds are enjoying their visit, Claire runs into a problem: the only place with cellphone reception is Hawk Peak!

Strange Horticulture is an occult puzzle game in which players take on the role of the proprietor in a plant shop in the town of Undermere. Tasks include finding and identifying plants as well as helping local residents with their various needs. As the days go by and different people visit the shop, however, a darker narrative begins to reveal itself.

Trüberbrook is a sci-fi point-and-click adventure game set in the late 1960s. The player takes on the role of Hans Tannhauser, a young physicist who mysteriously wins a trip to the village of Trüberbrook, an ageing but beautiful health resort in the West German countryside. However, things quickly get strange and it becomes clear that this trip will not be the relaxing mental-block remedy that he had hoped for.

The Stillness of the Wind is a relaxing and meditative survival game about life and loss. It centres around Talma, who, having watched the land around her change and the people she loved move on, remains in solitude on her farmstead. She leads a simple but content life, persistently filling her days with routine, looking after her home and caring for her adorable goats and chickens!

Beacon Pines is a cute and creepy adventure game with a twist. Players can sneak out, make new friends, organise heists and collect words that can be used to alter the course of fate! It plays like a cross between an adventure game and interactive fiction. There are a host of exciting quests to do, intriguing areas to traverse and eclectic characters to meet, but exploration is pleasantly interrupted from time to time with little bits of narration from the book that is being written by the player as they make different choices and complete the game.

The Stone Cutter and the Mountain Spirit

The Stone Cutter and the Mountain Spirit is a point-and-click puzzle game based on the fairy tale ‘The Stone Cutter’ from The Crimson Fairy Book by Andrew Lang, published in 1903. It tells a philosophical tale of desires, wills and transformations.
