This year, the San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) celebrated something beautiful – their 50th anniversary. Now that they’ve passed such a huge milestone, it’s time to take a moment and think about what really stood out. This article will specifically focus on panels and talks that relate to games. Join our Discord to discuss more about SDCC and all the news that came out with it.

Lightning Highlights

First up, developers from Gears of War attended SDCC and held a panel, talking about the latest Gears 5. Bandai Namco also held a panel, supplying fans with behind-the-scenes info on characters, stories, and esports. Apex Comics had some sneak peek previews of their upcoming comics.

Monster Hunter: Iceborne

The developers for Monster Hunter World shared more news about their latest expansion Iceborne which is slated for release on September 9, 2019. The discussion included video footage of new weapons, armor, and species. Iceborne is set to take place in an icy area called Hoarfrost Reach. Perhaps the most exciting part of the expansion is that the dev team says they’ve answered fans in delivering more challenging endgame content.

Hideo Kojima

Kojima spoke to fans about his latest project, Death Stranding, revealing the box art. The game, an exclusive on Playstation, is set to release November 8, 2019. Along with this, he shared that he isn’t personally a fan of the Battle Royale genre, saying they are an easy way to make money. Here’s the quote that’s been floating around:

“The easiest way to make money is to make a game where everyone is on an island trying to shoot each other.”

Cuphead Creators

Studio MDHR, the creators of Cuphead, attended SDCC to share their inspiration for their huge hit and news of where Cuphead and Mugman are headed next which is … Netflix! The creators are working with Netflix as executive producers to turn Cuphead into an animated series called The Cuphead Show!

The Witcher Trailer

Aside from the trailer for Star Trek Picard, I was extremely curious, excited, and concerned to see the trailer for The Witcher! Other than the wig on Geralt not looking that great, the trailer features scenes and characters from both the books and games. The TV series will follow the story laid out in the books rather than the games as the games use the books as a foundation but branch in different ways. The creator of the series, Lauren Hissrich, spoke about how she wanted the story portrayed and capturing the Poland spirit as she calls it all in The Witcher panel that I highly recommend watching.

Conclusion

To me, these were the most memorable moments from the latest San Diego Comic-Con. I felt like this year had a good mix of panels with comics, shows, video games, career, and educational pieces.
